Hi, I’m Isabel Mendoza. I was born and raised in Colombia, and after living in Cuba, France, and Germany, I came to the Czech Republic to study theater, where I’ve been living since 2013.
My mission as a Dance/Movement Therapist is to support adult women in becoming aware of their part in relationships, their emotional patterns, and behaviors, with the understanding that change is possible.
I offer a safe therapeutic space where you can explore your relationship with your body, heal patterns that no longer serve you, and develop the tools to set real boundaries and express yourself authentically, and feel happier and more satisfied with the life you are creating.
This work is deeply personal to me. Before becoming a therapist, I spent decades repairing the damages caused to my body image and self-esteem: I trained in classical ballet from a young age, where I was repeatedly told that my body needed to change in order to belong. Praise came when I lost weight, and criticism followed any natural change in my shape. These messages — from teachers, family, and society — taught me to shrink myself, both physically and emotionally.
For a long time, I distanced myself from dance altogether. The pain tied to my history of movement was too strong. But over time, through study, therapy, and lived experience, I began to reclaim movement as a source of healing, not shame. I explored new ways of moving, studied anthropology, traveled, exercised in the gym regularly to take my mind off the sudden loss of my father, and reconnected with my body on my own terms. It became clear that I wasn’t alone — many women carry similar stories of feeling “too much” or “not enough.”
While teaching dance during my master’s in theater in Prague, I noticed that my students' feedback wasn’t about technique — it was about transformation: “I finally dared to wear a low-cut top and I love it,” or “For the first time in my life, I feel feminine.” That was a turning point. I realized I was holding something therapeutic, and I wanted to do it ethically and professionally. That’s what led me to study Dance/Movement Therapy in depth.
Today, I’m a certified Dance/Movement Therapist with five years of formal training. I’m a member of the Czech and Colombian Associations of Dance/Movement Therapy (TANTER) and (ADMT COL). I work with women who are ready to reconnect with their bodies, shift harmful internal narratives, and take up space in their own lives.
What makes my approach unique is the combination of my experiences: I offer the care of a therapist, the cultural awareness of an anthropologist, and the creative insight of an artist. As a migrant woman who has lived in five countries, I understand what it means to rebuild a sense of belonging — both in the world and within yourself. My work combines warmth, creativity, and grounded optimism to support meaningful, lasting change.
🌈This is a safe and supportive space for LGBTQ+ clients.
